Womens Board of Catholic Charities Hosts Stylish Benefit Luncheon

The Women’s Board of Catholic Charities in Summit County recently organized its 36th annual benefit luncheon and fashion show, drawing a crowd of over 200 attendees at Our Lady of Cedars in Fairlawn. This event serves as a fundraising platform to support the charitable work undertaken by Catholic Charities. The program was led by Debbie O’Donnell and Alice Barger, with Lori Limbacher as the emcee, showcasing a successful collaboration among various individuals.

Traditionally, this fundraiser generates substantial funds ranging from $15,000 to $20,000 for the charitable initiatives of Catholic Charities. The final figures for this year’s event are currently being tallied. The luncheon offered guests a delightful meal, along with the opportunity to participate in a silent auction featuring numerous gift baskets. Volunteer models elegantly displayed clothing from Chico’s of Hudson, with attendees receiving an exclusive discount at the store.

Anne MacWherter, the president of the women’s board, shed light on the board’s year-round efforts, including crafting baby blankets through the “Bags of Love” program, volunteering at the hot meals program, and supporting events like the Camp Christopher Fall Festival. Additionally, fundraising initiatives were highlighted, particularly in aid of Camp Christopher camperships and the Adult Day Services program.

Tess Flannery, the director of Catholic Charities in Summit County, shared insights into the local services offered by the organization, which is a part of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland. She narrated a touching story of a client whose life was positively impacted by the assistance received from Catholic Charities. The Women’s Board extends an invitation to all adult women to join their mission of aiding those in need, fostering connections, and engaging in collaborative efforts with compassionate women from parishes across Summit County.

Membership in the board is open to women in three categories: active, associate, and affiliate. Active members actively participate in board activities, support fundraising projects, and hold voting rights. Associate members support the board’s endeavors but do not have voting privileges, while affiliates, who pay an annual due, cannot vote or hold office. The board has upcoming events like the installation luncheon and spring meeting, encouraging interested individuals to join in and contribute to their noble cause.
